Two Active Military parents assigned to the U.S Army are asking for help and support for their son, little Lucus, who’s almost 2 years old as he fights his battle against a rare and severe neurodevelopmental condition called CYFIP2 Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy (DEE). There are no approved treatments and no known cure for this condition.

Lucas must rely on a feeding tube and works hard each day to learn how to sit independently, crawl, walk, speak and eat. It’s hard for him to reach for toys and play. His parents hope and pray that Lucas one day can just live a child’s life, be able to run, pretend and play. After the diagnosis and the chaotic period of managing symptoms that followed, Lucas’s family needed to heal. This took many months and when they finally understood it all, they were ready to fight for a treatment. They formed the CYFIP2 Network, an international group of parents formed into a nonprofit organization advocating for their children. They’re fundraising to identify drugs that can be repurposed for this condition and to test these medicines in preclinical studies. They’re also fundraising to test newer genetic therapy approaches.
